How cultural filters adapt traditions, imports and commerce into hybrid Thai pop

I spoke to students in the first year of Chulalongkorn University’s international masters program in Communication Design, known as ComMa in the manner of its successful international degree program ComDe. My talk introduced and discussed topics related to Thainess and how it goes far beyond notions of official Thai identity to include aspects of popular culture. My talk focused on ways of viewing it through ‘cultural filters’ that reveal the way traditions, imports and commercial design are combined and adapted to make the hybrid Thai design character.
