I was invited to join a panel of non-Thai pundits on Thai art for a discussion during the ‘Thai Trends’ exhibition at Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (BACC). The fellow panellists were art critic David Elliott, and founder of the design-art house Lotus Arts de Vivre, Rolf Von Bueren. the topic of the talk was ‘Farang gaze – Thai Trends’, seeking insights from informed Western commentators about this major survey exhibition of Thai contemporary art. The moderator was Apinan Poshyananda. From the press release:

"Farang gaze Thai trends" A panel discussion inconjunction with "Thai Trends: From Localism to Internationalism" Exhibition

Sunday 16th September 2012 from 5 p.m.

Auditorium, 5 floor, bacc.

Renowned speakers will give their views on Thai art from both at home and abroad.

Discussion on Thai locality and internationalism from the gaze of expatriates and international museum director.

- David Elliott, a famous international curator and writer who was art director of museum of modern art, Oxford, uk, moderna museet, Stockholm and mori art museum, Tokyo.

- Philip Cornwel-Smith, an independent journalist and author of "Very Thai".

- Rolf Von Bueren, participating artist and chairman of Lotus Arts de Vivre

The session will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Apinan Poshyananda, chief curator of the exhibition.

** The talk will be in English and there will be simultaneous translation in Thai. **
