Reading Very Thai (Bed Supperclub)

The nightclub/restaurant Bed Supperclub in Bangkok had an art concept, with performances, exhibitions and themed installations that changed monthly for the decade it was open. My book Very Thai was often the inspiration for installations, including the temple fair theme of its folksy retro market event Bed Bazaar, and when the club was strung with the tangled street wiring that Very Thai was the first to cover in print as an informal symbol of the Bangkok.

So often would the curatorial team led by Sanya Suvarna Phouma leaf through Very Thai that he had the idea of making one month’s installation about that process. Sanya filmed a 5:14 minute video of him leafing back and forth through a copy of Very Thai, which was projected on the bar/restaurant’s main wall throughout each night for the month of May 2013.
